Femi Falana, the lawyer representing detained publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has said that the State Security Service (SSS) cannot report Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court to the National Judicial Council (NJC) for granting bail to the publisher.   In a statement issued today, Femi Falana said Justice Taiwo only exercised his discretion judicially in an application for the bail of a citizen. He also said the SSS cannot complain against the handling of the case by Justice Taiwo who did not entertain the agency’s application to extend Mr Sowore’s detention.   Falana said media reports on the plan to report Justice Taiwo to NJC was misleading as the quotes in the report were not credited to any named official of the SSS but to some anonymous sources. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) says it has not exonerated Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in the recent N90 billion scandal. Recall that the leadership of the Christian body visited the Vice President last Friday to discuss the N90 billion he allegedly received from the Federal Inland Revenue Service FIRS during the buildup of the 2019 general elections. The body after the meeting said it is throwing its weight behind the Vice President in this trying time. Many had interpreted this to mean the body had exonerated the Vice President from any wrongdoing. The Federal Government will on Monday, September 30th arraign Sahara Reporters publisher Omoyele Sowore, before the Federal High Court in Abuja. According to a report by Punch, he is to be arraigned on seven counts of treasonable felony, money laundering and cybercrimes which was instituted against him by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation. The Department of State Service, which has been detaining the former presidential candidate since August 3, continues to hold him in custody in violation of the court order granting him bail six days ago.   Justice Taiwo Taiwo, who earlier on August 8, granted the DSS permission to hold the activist for 45, had on September 24, granted him bail. Despite meeting the bail condition on September 25, Sowore has not been released by the DSS. The police in Imo State have arrested a leader of a dreaded cult group in Imo State University Owerri,  Anthony Chukwudalu  (21), for allegedly killing one  Victory Godwin Japhet , a final year student of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri. The state’s Commissioner of Police,  Rabiu Ladodo,  said Chukwudalu, who murdered the victim at the front gate of Imo State University on July 31, 2019, was later tracked down and arrested in Aba, Abia State. “The suspect was tracked down, arrested in Aba, Abia State and on interrogation, confessed membership of Neco Black Movement of Africa alias Black Axe Secret Confraternity of which he is the leader of the dreaded cult group in Imo State University Owerri,” he said while parading the suspect at the Command Headquarters, Owerri.

Protesters are currently at the National Human Rights Commission office in Abuja calling for the release of Omoyele Sowore, who has continued to be held by the Department of State Services despite a Federal High Court ordering his immediate release on bail on Tuesday. According to a report by Punch, the Department of State Service has twice on Friday, September 27th blocked a bailiff of the Federal High Court in Abuja from effecting a fresh service of the court order for the release of Sowore.   It was learnt that the bailiff first arrived the DSS headquarters in Abuja, where he (Sowore) had been held since August 3, 2019, around 9.30 a.m. on Friday, but was asked to return by 12 noon when the Director-General of DSS, Yusuf Bichi, would be around. The African Action Congress has called on President Buhari not to allow the country to descend into a state of lawlessness as a result of flagrant disobedience to court order.   National Organising Secretary of the party, Oshiokhue Ikpeminoghena, disclosed this on while condemning the refusal of the Department of State Services to release its National Chairman, Omoyele Sowore. Ikpeminoghena said the refusal of the Nigerian Government in complying with the Federal High Court order on Tuesday directing the immediate release of Sowore on bail by the DSS as an invitation to uprising. He said, “We are law abiding citizens but every reasonable Nigerian should let the government know that they are inviting anarchy and we pray that we don't get to that stage.” He said that the party would call for an emergency meeting and make public its plan towards addressing this issue more critically.

President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa has told former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, that no Nigerian was killed in the latest xenophobic attacks in the country.   Obasanjo, who was in South Africa to launch a book he co-authored, met Ramaphosa and discussed the xenophobic attacks and other issues affecting the two countries.   Spokesperson for Ramaphosa, Khusela Diko, said the two leaders also used the opportunity to reflect on recent events in Africa. “The leaders engaged on misconceptions created about the situation in South Africa that gave the impression that Nigerian nationals in particular had been victimised. Femi Falana, a Human rights activist and Omoyele Sowore's lawyer has countered the Department of State Services (DSS) claim of not receiving a court order to release the "Revolution Now" convener.  Punch reported that DSS spokesperson Peter Afunaya, said they were yet to receive the  court order for Mr Sowore’s release  in a statement he released which was authorised by the Director-General of the agency, Yusuf Bichi. “We have not received the court order. And his (Sowore’s) counsel is a very senior member of the bar and he knows the process to follow,” Mr Afunaya said.  When asked again if they have received the court papers in a telephone interview with Premium Times, the DSS spokesperson said “No we haven’t, thank you.” Mr Falana however countered the claim by stating that he personally served the secret police the order and the notice of compliance by his client. The Department of State Services, DSS, has given a reason why embattled publisher of Saraha Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, is still in custody despite fulfilling his bail conditions yesterday September 25th. In an interview with Punch, the spokesperson of the DSS, Dr. Peter Afunnaya said the agency is yet to receive the Federal High court Abuja's order granting Sowore bail.  “We have not received the court order. And his (Sowore’s) counsel is a very senior member of the bar and he knows the process to follow; this process has not been followed'' Afunnaya said Falana was at the DSS headquarters in Abuja yesterday to receive Sowore after the bail condition was fulfilled. 

The Federal High Court, Abuja, has threatened to jail the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, over the agency's refusal to release Omoyele Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters despite fulfilling his bail condition. In a “notice of disobedience to order of court” issued by the court today Thursday September 26th and addressed to the DSS DG, the Federal High Court directed the boss of the secret police to comply with its directive or face grave consequences, which includes “commitment to prison”.

Oby Ezekwesili, former Minister of Education, has queried the continued detention of Omoyele Sowore by the DSS despite the fact that he has fulfilled his bail condition. Ezekwesili in a series of Tweets, wondered why the President is yet to instruct the DSS to release Sowore to his lawyer, Femi Falana.
